A SHORT BIOGRAPHY

I went to study drawing and painting at the Canberra School of Art in Australia, followed by courses in Bonn (Germany),  Stockholm (Sweden), The Hague (The Netherlands) and The Florence Academy of Art (Italy), online courses by Michelle Dunaway and East Oaks Studio.

In my portrait paintings I want my choice of colours to create the right atmosphere to emphasize the positive side of that person.  Once the features are in place the real story begins,  Absolutely everything (colour, value, and form) in the whole picture plane should help to tell the story of who my subject is and what  makes him or her unique.

In my portrait drawings I also  seek to capture the essence of the person.  But now the approach is more sparse,  with one line or shadow saying it all. It’s this search for the ‘what,  how and where’ that fascinates me!

For landscape painting I use oils  because I want my choice of colours to create an atmospheric mood in nature, the stillness of a sunset.

My commissions have been from all over  the world:  Australia, the United Kingdom,  Belgium, Germany, Italy, Malta,  the United States and The Netherlands. I have been a member of the Portrait Society of America for many years now and before Covid I attended their yearly conferences.
